   How did music start?
Did it start with drumming around the fire, to body movements? Or did it start with using voices in spiritual acts, just acting “whacko”? What kind of rites ignited the fire and started this wonderful thread of cultural evolution?

How did music start ? You just should listen to the chirpings of a newborn child and you can have an idea of how it all started. Or also just observe and listen to nature ... May be it just began by trying to imitate those sounds (for hunting as an example - hunting animals not newborn children ... although... ;) ).

If I were a megalomaniac (like lamb) I would say that music began with me and that I’m like the Big Bang for the universe :D

Now if you’re interested in this topic, you should read this article which is quite interesting...

I like those kind of questions ;)

Btw, anybody to talk about “LOST” the TV-series ??

Thanks. The idea of walking as the beginning of beat was a good one.

My guess is that music was given birth quite quickly as soon as the “noises” became part of human peacocking - perhaps at the same time these acts were also spiritual rites. The peacocking function might be the essence of all culture, i suppose.

As i see it, music is just another social context where we create a persona, thereby expressing and defining new aspects of ourselves. No different from the “IRL”-context, other than the tools. Culture happens when the complex human brain is able to create these imaginary contexts and 'pseudo-personas', maybe to gain evolutionary value just by displaying a strong 'mind-frame'.
